The tunnel exited into a small chamber with a hole in the roof. Looking up, the sky could be glimpsed - this
was the ventilation shaft.
It used to be capped with an iron flap that would make strange noises on windy days - causing a strange cacophony
to resonate through the tunnels. It could be a particularly spooky place to work (and that was without patients from
Cane Hill finding their way in).
