There was nothing left to do than cut our losses. It was a burning hot day and so we decided to walk around the site and check out the decrepit isolation hospital and the well-preserved chapel. All were locked tight and Anna Sewell's farmhouse, also to the north of the main hospital complex, was covered by CCTV cameras – tellingly the only building to be protected in such a manner.
