Around each ward, in the centre, and jutting off alone, were the sanitation towers. White clean tiles suggested clean toilets and cleaning facilities. However, both Howell and Hine also designed communal bath houses in other parts of their hospitals. These were later removed, and the baths were shoehorned into the sanitation towers.
