Here’s a close-up of the westerly octagonal shelter. The architecture was slightly
reminiscent of seaside pavilions, bandstands and piers.
This was a good place to sit and look across the fields.
Cane Hill originally had this style of octagonal shelter as well -
a map of the grounds shows their
positions, although none of them remain.
I walked back up to the hospital and then got lost trying to find a path across the second
airing court - which turned out to be Matron's Garden. In the end, I found a path around the hospitals’ perimeter and followed that.
