Hellingly was also a good example of the increasing fragmentation of a hospital site:
there was the acute hopsital for 80 patients, the main asylum for 840 patients (which seems a remarkably
small amount given its
huge footprint), four detached villas for 30 patients each, an isolation hospital and a chapel.
