12 Stebbing Shaw’s water-colour of this period shows a building completely unlike
the Great Barr Hall of today (ignoring its current ruinous state). Whilst a spacious
dining hall was positioned in the east part of the building, the rest was a warren,
with a multitude of staircases. One resident described it as several houses under one roof.
