In February 1989, the NHS sold Great Barr Hall and 156 acres of
estate (lakes, farms and woodland) to David Worth, a Birmingham financier
and property developer. This move is now seen as a monumental blunder with the
Great Barr estate becoming fragmented and Worth nothing more than an enthusiastic,
albeit incompetent, amateur.
