My questions as to the scrap metal lying around the building had been answered by previous explorers.
Cell 4 had been used as a set for the action-adventure romp Sahara;
the building's east end had been dressed up with various props and structures. When
they left, the film makers destroyed part of the set, leaving the scrap in the pits below the testing machinery.
Mystery solved.
The set's removal meant I’d be photographing Pyestock's
Cell 4 and not the fictious set of Sahara – although
many of the "Biohazard" stickers remained on various parts of the building and equipment
just to confuse everyone.
