The second floor of the Steep (which was the sixth and final storey of the Germination Floor) was also mostly empty. A hoisting platform opened to the south, a small tank was positioned along the west wall and there were several grated holes in the floor.

I assume the holes in the floor allowed barley to be poured into the silos on the floor below where it would be allowed to germinate. The water was supplied by the water tank in the corner of the room; it, in turn, was fed by the main water tank atop the water tower.
