We cautiously surveyed the scene. The blocks stretched away to the south giving a clear view of the (blocked) conveyor bridge and the transmission bridge beyond it. To our north were the walls of the Graners, the perimeter fence, the railway track, and several houses forming a newly built estate; and many of their windows looked towards the maltings.

We decided to make a quick dash for it and ran across the lane into an open door of malting house #8.
