By cruel coincidence, I'd shown Marlon "The Haunting" (d. Robert Wise, 1963) the previous night. One
of the best ghost films ever made, it featured several scenes on a spiral staircase not unlike this one.
Except the staircase in The Haunting had lost its fixings and was precariously close to collapse.
