sleaford maltings | between a rock and a hard place

We eventually reached the first floor of the water tower and could hear pigeons cooing in alarm above us. This wasn’t new as most of the site was infested with them. For instance, when we entered the Kiln Rooms of Malting Houses #8 and #9, or the Green Barley Store, large numbers of pigeons rose up and made for the windows in huge flocks.

As I joked to Marlon, it was a perfect "Explorers are here" marker for anyone observing the site.

What we didn’t know was a security van was driving down the road towards the Maltings at that very time.
