As we went up the steps, we were now level with the transmission bridge between malting house #8 and malting house #9. This was formed of two iron
girders which supported a wooden pedestrian bridge alongside the drive-shaft housing. We found see the
mountings for the drive shaft to the right of the bridge but the shaft and top mountings had been removed.
It was a four storey drop to the ground below. The open door of malting house #8 was inviting but we wanted to try out
other ways to the next malting house before trying such extreme (and visible) methods as the transmission bridge.
