We soon found the first floor bridge which connected the maltings plant with the silk mill. It was a remarkably
insubstantial construction, with flimsy metal framed floor and asbestos curved ceiling. It wasn’t the safest of
structures I’ve walked across.
A conveyor belt was also routed across the bridge. So materials were taken from silk mill to the maltings
and visa-versa. Perhaps the separation of the functions of these buildings by the stream wasn’t as clear cut as
I originally thought.
