This next building, which I assume was the Sergeants’ Mess, was also joined to the
Officers’ Mess by means of a small annex corridor.
It was built to a similar high standard of the Officers’ Mess, and shared the same designed
pitched roof. Other buildings on the site had flat, reinforced concrete roofs – this was to offer
protection against incendiary bombs.
Offkilter and I thoroughly explored the Officers’ and
Sergeants’ Mess in May – the Sergeants’ Mess was a simple
‘E’ shaped block of toilets, clubrooms and individual sleeping quarters. Not that interesting,
so I wasn’t going to have another look today.
