The original landscaping had long gone leading behind a grass filled courtyard with a single tree.

The buildings towered over this small courtyard. Even though the buildings were supposedly only two storeys high, the undulating ground meant that extra basement floors were required in places.

No expense was sparred even away from the frontage of the building, and the interiors also featured stone mullioned windows, buttresses dressed with stone and more coloured brick decorations.

Even the windows of the tiniest, most unimportant basement windows were fitted with elaborate decorative metal frames.

The north-eastern airing court, once the location of a circular drive and landscaping, was now covered in tarmac and hosted several small extensions and lone buildings.

Unused cap stones could be found on palettes by the entrance to the stores (this passageway lead to the former cloisters behind the Administration Block). These were probably intended for the refurbished hall but were never used.
