We left the small vault and retraced our steps back to the second lateral. Moving southwards, we eventually
joined the southern longitudinal and moved west. More and more junk started appearing in the tunnels and
eventually corrugated sheet doors.
The Optical Factory eventually left, unable to conquer the penetrating damp. A garage then took over, and
given the sheer amount of items in this tunnel, they probably reopened the southern tunnel portal and used
this tunnel as a store and workshop. Given the number of garages and engineering workshops on the eastern
side of the A23, it’s likely that one of these businesses moved in.
