Considering its sturdy 1930s construction, and the fact that
the site had been derelict for less than five years, the amount
of water damage was considerable. Water constantly dripped through
the concrete ceilings – leading to huge growths of mould and moss.
This reminded me of the Officers’ and Sergeants Mess. Offkilter
and I found several rooms knee deep in bracken and ferns – spreading their roots in the lush carpets.
